? Downlight Installation in Cambridge – How We Get a Perfect Finish
Installing downlights (also known as recessed spotlights) can completely transform the look of a room — but getting them fitted neatly and safely takes experience, the right tools, and sometimes a bit of creative problem-solving.
At Titan Electrical Ltd, we install downlights across Cambridge and the surrounding areas. Here’s how we do it, and how we make sure your ceiling looks great when we’re done.
? Option 1: Cutting from Below and Skimming the Ceiling
Sometimes the floor above has laminate or solid flooring, making it impossible to lift the boards and run cables from above. In other cases, the ceiling below may already be cracked or uneven, which gives a good opportunity to improve the finish.
In these cases, we:
- Cut the holes for the downlights from below
- Carry out all the wiring work through the ceiling
- Then arrange for a plasterer to skim the full ceiling afterwards
? This gives you a perfectly smooth finish, with no visible damage or patching — just a clean, modern look.
? Option 2: Wiring from Above – No Damage to the Ceiling
If there’s loft space above or we can access the floorboards easily, we’ll wire the downlights from above.
In this case:
- We lift the flooring above the ceiling
- Run all the cables out of sight
- Cut tidy holes for the downlights from below
- No need for any plastering or ceiling repair
? This method causes minimal disruption and is ideal for newer homes or when a plastered finish isn’t needed.
